For 16-year-old Ethan, the gift of a wish meant growing in his love for music. After being diagnosed with cancer in February, he found peace in the time he would play piano and therefore, was sure about his wish as soon as he was approached by Make-A-Wish. Ethan wished for a used baby grand piano because, as he explained, he wanted something that somebody else had already loved.
Ethan got much more than he bargained for with his wish. He had no idea that his wish was the 5,000th for the chapter or that it would be granted live at the Wake up for Wishes 30th Anniversary celebration. The day he received the instrument, Roberts thought he was simply attending a benefit breakfast in honor of celebrating the 30th anniversary of Sacramento Make-A-Wish, but little did he know what was to come when Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson began introducing the organization’s 5,000th wish. Much to Ethan’s surprise, he was asked to play for the packed crowd who elicited an incredible outpouring of support.
True to Ethan’s humble personality, even though he has been given a tremendous gift by Make-A-Wish and a platform on which to play his music, he only hopes to live a normal life, like everybody else. Thank you for being a child worthy of such a wonderful wish!
Ethan’s wish was generously adopted by chapter founder, Frank Ramos. If you would like to Adopt-A-Wish like Ethan's, click here.
