"Kids with autism can get really stressed out and they deserve to have a place where they feel safe." -Carlo, 16
Carlo's Very Special Wish
A kind, funny young man, sixteen-year-old Carlo has a warm heart that brings joy to everyone around him. It really was no surprise that his wish was to give back to children in need. When asked what he wanted most, more than meeting his hero, Adam Sandler or getting a new jet ski, or even a trip to Paris, he wished to have a sensory machine donated to children with autism.
Carlo’s most heartfelt wish is inspired by the role models he had growing up, and his hope to help other kids in difficult situations. Prior to his illness, he worked with kids with autism in school and knew how extremely important it is to have tools that help them calm down during sensory overload. "Kids with autism can get really stressed out and they deserve to have a place where they feel safe," he said.
On June 28, 2019, his wish was granted. With the support of Bristol-Myers Squibb, Inc.®, a Vecta Deluxe Mobile Sensory Station® was donated to the MIND Institute® in his honor.
Family, friends and board members gathered to celebrate and honor this special, young man as the machine was unveiled. Thousands of kids will continue to feel the impact of his compassion for years to come during their experience at the MIND Institute®. Thank you, Carlo.
