The children at Holy Spirit Parish School in Sacramento work hard to grant wishes! The caring sixth grade class at Holy Parish are dedicated to the Make-A-Wish® mission and worked tediously to raise money to grant a child’s wish for the second year in a row. These hard-working students earned money all on their own; they were not allowed to ask their friends or family for help. “I wanted to teach the students the importance of earning money and giving back to their community,” said Mr. LoGiudice, the class’s teacher.
To earn the money, the students participated in a wide-range of projects. Some students helped out by washing windows or cars. Another student held a bake sale, complete with chocolate cake. One student even built and sold 34 bird houses!
Once the class raised the money, on March 2 they surprised Wish Kid J.J. in their class where they announced to him that his wish was being granted! They revealed to J.J., 6, who is battling leukemia, that he will be heading off to Disney World and LEGOLAND next week! The students greeted J.J. with his favorite Disney character, a Mickey Mouse toy, along with Legos to mark the occasion. One of the students from the class even recited a poem she wrote describing J.J.’s strength as he has been battling his condition.
Needless to say, J.J. was overfilled with joy and excitement which led to him running around the class room giving all the kids a high-five and a hug in appreciation. It has been a great experience for everyone from J.J, to his family, to all the students from Holy Spirit Parish School ’s sixth grade class. “It is truly an amazing thing to see all these children want to pitch in and work so hard to make J.J.’s wish come true. I hope my kids grow up to be as kind and caring as these children. Their parents should be so proud” said Sherry, J.J.’s mom.
We at Make-A-Wish® are grateful to Mr. LoGiudice’s sixth grade class at Holy Spirit Parish School for helping J.J’s wish come true. This shows that kids of all ages can grant wishes in our community. Click here to see how you can get started in a Kids For Wish Kids® Program.
