One afternoon, eight-year-old Joseph complained to his parents about leg pain. They didn’t think too much of since Joseph was a relatively active kid always looking for another adventure. However, one weekend, his parents noticed that his movements became very fatigued. He fell asleep midafternoon, slept for the rest of the day and for all of the following day as well. The next day they took Joseph to the hospital where he was diagnosed with leukemia and began chemo shortly after. While Joseph was in the hospital he spent a lot of time watching Turtleman on TV! Make-A-Wish® pulled out all of the stops while granting Joseph’s wish to meet Turtleman, the man who had helped him through what seemed like endless amounts of chemotherapy.
Joseph was able to spend the whole day with Turtleman while they rode in the Turtle Truck, went to Turtleman’s museum exhibit, and pet little colts that will one day become racing horses. Southwest Airlines made sure Joseph was treated like royalty. He even got to sit in the cockpit and meet the captain of the plane on their way to Kentucky. Joseph’s trip was quick but his pictures, autographs and memories with Turtleman will last a lifetime.
