Like Make-A-Wish® children, McKenna has had to face numerous challenges that seem unjust for a person of her age. Among these challenges McKenna has had to battle cancer and all the procedures and treatments that go along with fighting the disease. A child’s life is peppered with many joyous moments that will be remembered for years to come. Having a life threatening illness, however often interferes with making these memories.
For one simple day, McKenna was just a girl; for that day was the day she experienced the Power of a Wish®.
For teenagers, a personal automobile is a tangible extension of their personality. This is why for McKenna, her one true wish was to have her automobile restored. The wish took some time to be completed, but the anticipation built up for 16-year-old McKenna and finally this past December, her beautifully restored SUV was presented to her in a grand celebration. The look on 16-year old McKenna made the arduous labor worth it for community sponsors who donated their time and energy in this wish. When everything was said and done, McKenna had experienced the power of a wish. Her face radiated with joy as she was handed the keys to her newly restored car, that moment capturing the joy that all children deserve. For one simple day, McKenna was just a girl; for that day was the day she experienced the Power of a Wish®.
