At the age of nine, Delaney has already endured and triumphed over more of life’s challenges and obstacles than most individuals encounter their entire lives. In 2011, Delaney went into cardiac arrest while at school. Once arriving at the hospital, while doctors attempted to discover what had afflicted her while also informing her parents and family on what was occurring and had caused the cardiac arrest. Two possible outcomes for Delaney were presented to her family: either she was not going to make it or she would continue suffering from cardiac arrests. You can imagine the gravity and heartbreak her family must have felt during that moment, fearful and uncertain of the livelihood of their daughter.
However, Delaney decided to present a third option to the situation herself. Awaking from the medically induced coma, she surprised and shocked her family when she began asking about going on a vacation! Since then, Delaney lives with an ICD implanted just above her heart that helps keep her heart in normal rhythm.
“She said, ‘Just like the song, it’s gonna be the best day of my life!’”~Delaney’s mother Monica
When Make-A-Wish was introduced to Delaney, she was asked what she wanted as her wish. Almost without hesitation, she request a room re-do. When asked why she chose this as her wish, it was very simple to her mother Monica, “She wanted a big girl room.” On the day of the big reveal, Delaney was brimming with excitement and anticipation. “She said, ‘Just like the song, it’s gonna be the best day of my life!’”, remembers Monica of her daughter’s elation for the new room. Her excitement only continued to grow once the new room was revealed to her, saying “this is the best room I can ask for! The room is way above my expectations!” It’s safe to say that this truly was the best day of Delaney’s life.
