Make-A-Wish® of Sacramento & Northeastern California held its 13th Annual Walk for Wishes® on Saturday, May 19, 2012. The event took place at the Capitol in Sacramento and attracted over 800+ walkers to show their support of the organization’s mission to grant wishes to children facing life-threatening medical conditions.

The event raised over $150,000 and will enable the chapter to grant 25 wishes to children just like Kamy, Walk for Wishes® Ambassador 2012. Kamy has struggled with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, a type of cancer that attacks the immune system. After spending as many as 17 days at a time in the hospital, Kamy wished to go back home and sleep in her own bed - that thought stuck with Kamy so much that when Make-A-Wish® of Sacramento and Northeastern California offered her a wish, she asked for a room makeover - her idea of the perfect sanctuary outside the austere walls of the hospital. Kamy’s one true wish was granted through generous donations like those raised at the Walk for Wishes® last weekend.

Stefanie Cruz, News Anchor for FOX40, served as Master of Ceremonies, and led the group throughout the festivities, which included a Kids Zone, Wish Café, and many other activities.

Title event sponsors were Vision Service Plan and H&R Block. Wish sponsors included Response 1Medical Staffing, Inc., Kaiser Permanente, Wells Fargo, Sutter Health, SAFE Credit Union, and CGI. A special thank you to our in-kind sponsors who included: Mirtha’s Balloon Decorations & Rentals, Mission Linen Services, ADJ’s Exquisite Sounds, Safeway, Premier West Bank and Hot 103.5 FM. Make-A-Wish also wishes to thank the many Team Captains that rallied friends and family members to make this event a success.

Fundraising continues through July 15, 2012 so please spread the words and help us grant even more wishes. The donation website can be found at http://www.sacwalkforwishes.kintera.org/2012.
